Rules and other information:

The exam will be open note/open book but MUST be completed independently.  Working with other students or others on the exam will be treated as academic dishonesty and responded to accordingly.

Because you have from 12:01 am Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, through 2:00 pm Monday, Dec. 1, there will be NO opportunity for a make-up without clear, extenuating circumstances with documentation.  Plan accordingly.

The exam will be accessible on Web Vista and will include multiple choice and short-answer questions.  As with the quiz, your Internet browser needs to be set to accept cookies and allow pop-ups.  Check your browser before starting. You will have the equivalent of one class session for completing the exam (65 minutes).  You only get ONE attempt at this exam.  Once you start you need to complete it.

If you run into computer problems while taking the exam, contact me right away.

Be sure to save your answers as you go and to submit the test when finished.

Scores and feedback will be available after all exams have been received and scored.

Online testing tips:

WebVista will be unavailable Sunday, Nov. 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for regular maintenance. They will post to the University's System Status Report page when the system is back up.

If you're using a different computer than usual, be sure to do a browser check before starting.  Other Web Vista support is available at http://webct.umn.edu/students/ or contact Pam Gades at UMM Computing Services at 320-589-6376, pam@morris.umn.edu.

Treat the exam like any other exam.  Online exams for this course over the summer had mean scores similar to in-class exams (in the C+ range).  Here's some tips to help you do your best:

Even though it's open book/open note, STUDY ahead of time as for any exam.  You won't have time to find, read, and make sense out of information at the time of the exam if you're really looking at it for the first time.  Use materials only to refresh your memory.

Make sure you have a quiet place to take the test undisturbed.  You may need to make this clear to Uncle Max, young nephew Cody and all the other relatives if you plan to do the exam over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Have a word processing program (Word Pad, Word, etc.) open for any short-essay questions.  Write your answers on the word processing program and copy/paste them into the exam.  This is protection in case an answer doesn't save properly.

To avoid last-minute problems (and the ensuing panicking!), begin the exam with plenty of time to finish or restart if there's some kind of Internet issue.

Best of luck and be sure to contact me if any questions.
