I think chemistry is interesting, fun and fits in seamlessly with the
liberal arts mission of this campus.
I have high expectations and know you can live up to them.
I can be flexible.
I can be stubborn, too.
I want to hear from you when you have questions, problems,
complaints.
I don't think highly of "spitback," that is, you listen to me and just
spit back what I told you. I think you should get what you pay for, and
that is to learn how to think and problem-solve.
I can do a darn good job of "spitback" myself, i.e. regurgitating the
text, but I'll try not to. That is a waste of your time and $$$. I will help
interpret and
explain, but I expect you to use the text as your primary source of
enlightenment.
I call on people in class so we can work through things together; it
is
too boring to just sit there and listen to me.
I will go the extra mile for you, if you are willing to go the extra
mile too.
This is a year-long commitment. We are in it, together, for the long
haul. It gets tough toward the end. HANG IN THERE.
Confidence and ability to keep on top of things ("time
management") has
MUCH more to do with success in this class than "smarts".
This can be a fun journey. It is hard work, but you will learn a
lot. ENJOY THE RIDE!!!
